Great foods for the body

 Great foods for the body

I have talked about a lot of foods that you should avoid.  Now it is time to turn it around.  I am always looking for foods that help the mind and body reach its full potential.  This is where I search the web and like to find foods that are interesting and are great for you.  The common term given for these foods is power foods.  I am going start with Rainbow trout.  Fish is often forgotten when you think ideas for dinner.  I want to shine light on the power of fish.  Fish is filled with a lot of powerful ingredients it is about time it get the respect that is deserves.  The next power food is Acerola juice.  This juice has 3,000 times the vitamin C as OJ.  It is a tart drink.  A lot of people think that watermelon is not beneficial at all. According to Texas A&M's Vegetable and Fruit Improvement Center, watermelon helps relax and dilate blood vessels.  I am going to end this on the sweet end.  Dark chocolate is a healthy treat when compared to milk chocolate.  Dark chocolate helps reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and increase blood flow to the brain.  With dark chocolate is important be able to control your portions.  There still are a lot of sugars in it.  These are just a start of the health foods.

What is the perfect breakfast?

What is the perfect breakfast?

I love a good breakfast.  It is important that you start your day off right.  Breakfast can be really good for you or it can really set your diet in the wrong direction.  It is important to get the most out of it.  I am going to start off with what foods that you should avoid.  It is important to know what is in your juices.  It is important to avoid juices that are from sugars not fruits. I have already blogged about how bagels are loaded with carbs and offer very minimal benefits to your body.  Now what to eat in the perfect breakfast…

This is the formula. 53% carbs 27% fat and 20% protein.

Carbs: oatmeal or wheat bread- Make sure that the oatmeal is not loaded with sugars.

Fat: Nut butters or whole nuts, avocados and olive oils- Avoid butter, bacon and full-fat cheese these foods digest slowly.

Protein: this can be achieved with a combination of egg whites, non-fat yogurt and skim milk

So this is my perfect meal… Wheat toast dry (without butter) with a reduced fat peanut butter spread on it with a side of egg whites and non-fat yogurts without sugars(this means make sure that the flavoring is natural.

Everyone says that breakfast is the best meal of the day.  But when you have bacon, eggs, fried hash browns and white toast with butter and jelly you really loose the benefit of the meal.  This meal would really slow you down and have little to no benefit to the consumer.  I love to wake up and have a healthy meal.  This is how you assure that you start your day in the right direction.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

What foods to avoid?

What foods to avoid?

There are so many different types of foods to buy and eat.  It is hard to know what foods are healthy to eat and foods are just a marketing scam.  Businesses use words like natural, low fat, and other health words to promote their products and brands.  In other words, just because the brand is called healthy choice or is natural the product may still be bad for you.  The fastest way to find healthy foods is by knowing what to avoid.  The first product that I avoid is margarine.  Margarine is loaded with trans-fats that increase bad cholesterol.  This can cause blood clotting and damage blood vessels.  I hate to do this to you but the next food to avoid is soda.  Soda is filled with large amounts of corn-syrup.  It is just like eating candy.  The next surprising one is Bagels.  Starchy white bagels to the flavored bagels have been stripped from all of their nutrients.  America is fat because of the next one.  Hot Dogs are loaded with calories with 80% of them from fat.  Lastly, you should avoid Movie theater popcorn.  This popcorn is loaded with calories that come straight from the butter that is injected in it.  Normal popcorn without the butter and salt is the perfect treat though.  I personally am human and love some of these items.  It is important to understand what they are doing to your body.  Small changes really add up and make the differences.  I personally like to add a slice of lemon to my water.  This helps give it some flavor without the harmful sugars.  Next, I like to purchase the butter that is mostly vegetable oil.  I understand that it is not as creamy but it gets the job don’t.  Lastly, I air pop my popcorn.  This allows me to know that it is not injected with the harmful chemicals.

How to get the most out of your workout?

How to get the most out of your work out?

I love to work out a lot.  I also do not have that much to waste.  This is why it is important that I can get the most out of my workouts.  I need to assure that my workouts are able to get the most value.  This is where I constantly am learning tricks.  Here are some of my biggest tricks.  It is important to keep the workout to around 30-40 minutes.  After this the benefits are not there.  Having a shorter and higher intense workout will pay off.  Protein and water are very important to help guide you workouts.  Drinking water really helps you keep hydrated and carbs are a great source of fuel.  When you mix the carbs with the intense workout value will be shown.  Now let’s talk weight lifting.  When you start weight lifting it is important to get the right form.  This can be done by using lighter weights.  Starting light and slowly moving up assures that you are building the right muscle strength.  It also is better slow down.  Going up and down slower assures that you are using your muscles and not just momentum.  These tips should really help anyone that is short on time get the most out of their workouts.  I personally find this to be the best place to start.

What to eat at a fast-food resturant...

What to eat at a fast-food restaurant?
I frequently find myself to be hungry and running short on time.  This leads to being forced to eat unhealthy food options.  As you probably already could guess I really like to eat healthy.  I am going to start with McDonald's.  I love to get the grilled chicken sandwich. The classic is the healthiest one.  I also sub out the fries for a side salad.  This change is a must.  Fried foods are very bad for you.  The next choice is Subway.  Subway is better than a lot of the burgers you get at other fast-food restaurants.  It is important to pick the right sub though.  The best option is the turkey breast sub.  If you are looking for the best of the best make sure you get this on the whole grain bun.  Lastly, it’s time for some coffee.  If you need your coffee this is what I get at Starbucks: Strawberry Blueberry Yogurt Parfait, tall cafe Americano.  I love to eat yogurt as much as possible.  Yogurt is really good for you over all.

I understand more than anyone that it is difficult to eat healthy.  It is important to remember the diets never last.  This is why it is important to make life changes.  Eating healthy makes you feel better overall.  When you break these habits your body will feel it.
I attached a helpful link … it helps guide me when I am going fast-food.  Remember just because its fast-food it does not have to be fat-food.

Weight training or Cardio?

LET THE DEBATE BEGIN

What is better weight training or cardio?

I personally feel that the body needs both weight training and cardio.  Weight lifting helps build strength. This paired with cardio can lead to the best results.  For me cardio helps make me feel best.  I really enjoy a good run.  Running on the treadmill for around an hour 3 times a week helps assure that my blood is flowing nice and smooth.  When I miss a workout I really slow down and I can feel it in a negative way.    A lot of doctors believe that everyone needs cardio.  I personally agree.  The results from cardio are unbelievable.  Since I started my cardio training I never slept so well.  I also breathe better and feel better overall.  I also do a lot of weight lifting.  I weight lift 3 times a week.  To keep my numbers up I must be consistent.  When I miss days I have trouble keeping up.  Missing days does not really affect my every day as much as cardio does.  This is why I feel that cardio is more important.
What do you think?
